Action star Jean Claude Van Damme celebrated his 51st birthday in Cairo, where he praised the January 25 revolution and the Egyptians, saying “they are warm people,” Egypt’s mass media reported on Tuesday.
He was quoted by Egyptian newspapers as saying that he was curious to come and see the nation that rid itself of a dictator through the peaceful revolution.
Van Damme arrived in Cairo on Sunday and on Monday he visited the pyramids and other ancient Egyptian landmarks.
In a number of talk shows on Egyptian satellite channels, Van Damme expressed his happiness of being in Egypt and his long desire to visit the country, especially after the revolution.
The visit marks the second time that a Hollywood celebrity visits Egypt and the iconic al-Tahrir square, the birthplace of the revolution.
Two-time Academy Award winner Sean Penn visited Cairo last month and also expressed his admiration of the Egyptian revolution and its peacefulness.
