Universal Soldier 4 shoots in October in 3D
May 12, 2010
Marketsaw reports via Deadline that Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren are teaming up again for another super-soldier outing in Universal Soldier IV, and that the movie begins shooting in stereoscopic 3D (i.e. with real 3D cameras rather than post-production fakery) this October. John Hyams, who directed Universal Soldier Regeneration (2009) is being wheeled back to helm the latest tale of semi-cyborg mayhem.
This news comes from Cannes, where a lot that is said to begin shooting on X date actually is going begging for a distributor in a very thin and nervous year; so with cancellations, budget cuts and a lot of chin-scratching among Hollywood execs, we'll have to see how far this project gets, and what current IV distributor Mark Damon ultimately commits to.
It's quite possible that this summer's success or failure of Stallone's The Expendables, which features virtually every 1980s celluloid action-hero (including 52 year-old Universal Soldier vet Lundgren) will determine the ultimate fate of USIV, in my opinion.
